Reigning Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.
She received almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
